France 2026: Day 2 – Heading South to Domaine de la Yole

By Nathan (Dad) • Published on 8/16/2026

After a good night’s sleep in Clermont-Ferrand, it was time to get back on the road.

Today was the day we were finally heading towards our destination — Domaine de la Yole.

We left just after 9:00am, with everyone packed back into the car and ready for the next part of the journey.

Back on the road

The drive south was beautiful.

As we got further into France, the scenery started to change and it really began to feel like we were getting closer to the Mediterranean.

Of course, travelling with six children means that a journey is never quite as simple as get in the car and drive until you arrive.

At one point, we needed to stop for a toilet and drink break for Hudson.

And that turned out to be quite useful timing because we also needed to charge the car.

The EV charging wait ⚡

One thing we knew before setting off was that travelling this distance in an electric car with eight people was going to require a little more planning.

Our charging stop was about halfway through today’s journey.

The only problem?

The charger wasn’t available when we arrived.

So we had to wait for a charger to become free.

Normally, that might be a little frustrating.

With six children in the car…

Let’s just say we were very happy that we had planned a toilet and drink stop at the same time! 😂

Eventually, a charger became available and we were able to get the car charged and back on the road.

It’s definitely something we’ll be keeping an eye on during the rest of the trip.

The charging infrastructure has been pretty good so far, but when you’re travelling with a full car and trying to keep to a schedule, having to wait for a charger can make a difference.

Finally… Domaine de la Yole! 🎉

After leaving Clermont-Ferrand shortly after 9:00am, we finally arrived at Domaine de la Yole at around 3:00pm.

And it was a great feeling.

After two days of travelling, we had finally reached our destination.

No more ferry.

No more long-distance driving.

No more “How much longer?”

At least for now. 😂

We’d made it.

The kids were excited, we were ready to get settled in and, after the journey, everyone was looking forward to exploring what Domaine de la Yole had to offer.
